Controller setup for CODM Season 7 Terminated on GameLoop PC — complete guide

GameLoop fully supports Xbox, PlayStation, and third-party controllers for CODM. Season 7 adds RC-XD car racing and Gulag — modes where a controller can outperform keyboard and mouse. This guide covers every setting you need.

Playing Call of Duty: Mobile with a controller on GameLoop PC is not a workaround — it is a first-class supported configuration. The emulator maps controller inputs to CODM's touch controls automatically, and the game's built-in controller sensitivity system gives you granular control over aim response curves. Season 7 Terminated adds two modes where controllers have a genuine advantage: RC-XD car racing and the new Gulag close-quarters encounters.

This guide covers hardware compatibility, connection steps, in-game configuration, and per-mode recommendations.

Which controllers work with GameLoop

GameLoop uses Windows DirectInput and XInput to detect controllers. Compatibility is wide.

Xbox controllers (Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S wireless controller) connect via USB or Xbox Wireless Adapter and are detected instantly by Windows as XInput devices. GameLoop reads them without any additional software. This is the smoothest plug-and-play experience.

PlayStation controllers work with additional setup:

  • DualShock 4 (PS4): connect via USB for immediate detection, or use DS4Windows for wireless Bluetooth. DS4Windows emulates an Xbox controller, which GameLoop reads cleanly.
  • DualSense (PS5): USB connection works natively in Windows as a DirectInput device. For full analog trigger support, use DS4Windows or DualSenseX in emulation mode.

Third-party controllers with XInput mode (Razer, PowerA, 8BitDo in XInput layout) work the same as Xbox controllers. 8BitDo devices in DirectInput mode need DS4Windows.

Mobile gamepads (GameSir X3, Backbone One connected via USB-C to PC) work but require USB connection and are recognised as standard XInput devices.

What does not work

Generic vibration controllers with only DirectInput and no emulation layer can fail to register analog aim sticks correctly in CODM. If your controller's sticks appear as digital (snapping to edges rather than gradual), install DS4Windows and enable XInput emulation.

Connecting the controller

  1. Plug in via USB or pair via Bluetooth. Windows should show "Controller connected" in the system tray.
  2. Open GameLoop. The controller icon in the top-right toolbar will turn active when a compatible device is detected.
  3. Launch CODM. On the loading screen, GameLoop will briefly show a message confirming controller input is active.

No key mapping inside GameLoop is required — CODM manages its own controller scheme internally once a controller is detected. GameLoop's keyboard-to-touch key mapping system is bypassed entirely when a recognised controller is connected.

CODM in-game controller settings

Once in CODM, go to Settings → Controls → Controller.

Controller layout

CODM offers three default controller layouts (Layout 1, 2, 3) and a custom layout editor. Layout 1 is designed for two-stick competitive play and is the starting point for most players.

Key bindings you will want to confirm or change:

ActionDefault (Layout 1)Recommended change
FireR2 / RTKeep — it is the trigger, which is correct
ADS (aim down sight)L2 / LTKeep
JumpX / AKeep
Crouch/slideCircle / BKeep
ScorestreakR1 / RBSome players move to d-pad right for faster access
Switch weaponTriangle / YKeep
ReloadSquare / XKeep
Open inventoryTouchpad / ViewKeep
SprintL3 (left stick click)Keep — toggle sprint in settings to avoid fatigue

For Season 7: the RC-XD car is controlled with the same aim/fire layout remapped to accelerate/steer. No custom mapping is needed specifically for it.

Toggle sprint

In Settings → Controls → Controller, enable Toggle Sprint. With toggle sprint off, you hold the left stick forward past a threshold for each sprint — sustainable in brief sessions but fatiguing in long ones. Toggle sprint lets you click L3 once to lock into sprint and click again to exit, which is the standard feel for players coming from console CoD.

Aim response curve

This is the most important controller setting. CODM offers three curves:

  • Standard: linear response. Stick at 50% travel = 50% aim speed. Predictable but lower ceiling.
  • Dynamic: slow at low stick travel, fast at maximum. Gives fine micro-adjustment at the centre and maximum tracking speed at the edge. This is what most competitive controllers players use.
  • Steady: very slow at low travel, gradual ramp. Best for snipers.

For Season 7 multiplayer, Dynamic is the correct starting point. The new close-range Gulag encounters reward fast snap-aiming at maximum stick deflection, which Dynamic handles better than Standard.

Vibration

Disable vibration. GameLoop's vibration output is passed through Windows to the controller but the timing is slightly delayed compared to native console — it provides less accurate feedback than on console and can subtly throw off your aim timing. Turn it off in Settings → Controls → Controller → Vibration.

Sensitivity settings for controllers

Controller sensitivity in CODM is separate from the touch/keyboard sensitivity system. It is measured in degrees-per-second at full stick deflection.

These are calibrated starting points for Season 7. They assume Dynamic aim response curve.

Multiplayer (Shipment, Raid, hardpoint modes)

SettingStarting value
Aim sensitivity14–16
ADS sensitivity (1x)20–22
ADS sensitivity (2x)18–20
ADS sensitivity (3x)14–16
ADS sensitivity (4x+)10–12

Higher ADS magnification needs lower sensitivity to track accurately — the numbers above reflect this. Run the in-game firing range for 5 minutes after changing these values before adjusting further.

Battle Royale (including the new Gulag encounters)

The Gulag is a close-quarters 1v1 arena that appears when you die in BR Season 7. Because fights happen at very short range, you want slightly higher sensitivity than your standard BR settings.

SettingStarting value
Aim sensitivity12–14
ADS sensitivity (1x)18–20
ADS sensitivity (3x)12–14
ADS sensitivity (6x/8x)8–10

RC-XD car racing

RC-XD car racing is the new arcade mode in Season 7 Terminated. The car's steering is mapped to the left stick, acceleration to R2/RT, and brake/reverse to L2/LT. The sensitivity system does not apply to the RC-XD directly — handling is governed by the in-game car physics.

For the RC-XD mode, the controller is decisively better than keyboard and mouse. Analog steering gives proportional turn radius control, which keyboard cannot replicate. Play this mode with a controller if you have one available.

Deadzone calibration

Stick drift — where your view drifts slightly without touching the controller — is a common issue on worn controllers. CODM's controller settings include Deadzone adjustment (Settings → Controls → Controller → Advanced).

Start at 0 and move the value up in steps of 3 until drift stops. Do not set deadzone above 10; at that point the centre zone of your stick becomes unresponsive and micro-adjustments feel floaty. If drift continues above 10, the controller needs physical replacement or cleaning.

Aim assist

CODM includes aim assist for controller players. It activates automatically when a controller is connected.

There is no setting to increase the aim assist strength beyond the default — what you see in Settings → Controls → Controller is the on/off toggle, and it is on by default. Some players turn it off for specific sniper playstyles where the magnetism pulls the reticle away from the intended pixel; for most modes, keep it on.

On GameLoop, aim assist functions the same as on console. There is no reduction or modification due to the emulation layer.

Controller vs keyboard and mouse: when to use each

Controllers are not uniformly better or worse than keyboard and mouse in CODM on PC. They have different strengths.

Controller is better for:

  • Close-range and mid-range gunfights where analog stick smoothness on Dynamic curve outperforms snapped key presses
  • RC-XD car racing (no contest — analog steering)
  • Players who have hundreds of hours of console CODM and have already built muscle memory
  • Long sessions where wrist fatigue from claw grip becomes a factor

Keyboard and mouse is better for:

  • Long-range precision (mouse can be aimed with much finer resolution than any stick)
  • Fast building-clearing where rapid 180-degree turns are needed
  • Players starting fresh who have no prior console muscle memory to transfer
  • BR solo/duo where one poorly-aimed shot at distance is match-ending

The practical answer for most returning Season 7 players: use the input device you already know. Switching input devices mid-season resets your muscle memory and will hurt your performance for several weeks.

Troubleshooting common controller issues

Controller connects to Windows but GameLoop does not recognise it

Check that GameLoop is updated to the latest version. Open GameLoop Settings → About and confirm the build date is 2026 or later. Older builds had a bug where third-party DirectInput controllers were not forwarded to CODM. Update GameLoop, then reconnect the controller before launching.

Right stick is too sensitive in ADS even at minimum in-game settings

This is a DPI scaling issue. Open Windows Display Settings and confirm scaling is set to 100%. At 125% or 150% scaling, GameLoop's input layer applies a multiplier to stick output that cannot be compensated by in-game settings alone. Set display scaling to 100%, restart GameLoop, and recalibrate.

Aim assist is not activating

Confirm the controller is being detected as an XInput device. Open Windows Game Controller settings (run joy.cpl in the Run dialog) and verify your controller appears with an XInput identifier. If it appears as a DirectInput device only, install DS4Windows and enable XInput emulation. Aim assist in CODM only activates on XInput controllers.

RC-XD car steers only left/right, no proportional control

This happens when the controller is in DirectInput mode and the emulation layer is converting analog signals to digital. The fix is the same as above — DS4Windows in XInput emulation mode.

Controller works in menus but stops responding in-game

CODM's anti-cheat may be detecting software that is injecting into the game process. Ensure DS4Windows, DS4Windows Extras, and similar tools are running in their standard modes without any injection features enabled. Disable any virtual controller devices not in use.

Summary

A controller on GameLoop PC in Season 7 Terminated is a fully supported, competitive input method for most modes. The steps are straightforward: connect via USB or pair via Bluetooth, confirm XInput detection, set the aim response curve to Dynamic, calibrate sensitivity in the firing range, and disable vibration. The RC-XD Racing mode in Season 7 is easier with a controller than without. For long-range sniping, mouse remains the better tool.

Season 7 launches 5 August. Use the sensitivity values above as your starting point and refine them in the first week of play.
