LAPA Is Now the Best SMG in CODM S8 — Best Loadout for GameLoop PC (2026)

The S8 balance patch raises LAPA damage at every range tier. With the FSS Hurricane nerfed and AS VAL pushed out of the meta, the LAPA is the SMG to run on GameLoop PC this season.

The Season 8 "Against All Fate" balance patch makes one change to the LAPA that sounds small but has a real effect: it raises all four damage tiers.

Before the patch: 31 / 28 / 20 / 16. After: 33 / 29 / 22 / 16.

Three of the four tiers are higher. The fourth stays the same. The result is a weapon that deals more damage at every range where it was already competitive — close-quarters, short-range, and the short-to-mid window that SMGs often fade out in.

At the same time, the two weapons that were ahead of the LAPA in S7 both got hit. The FSS Hurricane took a sprint speed reduction from 6.41 m/s to 6.26 m/s, which costs it the aggressive repositioning edge it held over other SMGs. The AS VAL took a three-part nerf covering fire rate, damage profile, and effective range — it is out of the 25–50m zone where it dominated. Neither weapon is gone from the meta, but both are weaker relative to what they were in S7.

The LAPA steps into that gap.

What the Buff Does in Practice

Three of the four tiers going up means the LAPA wins gunfights it used to lose. In CODM, damage tiers correspond to range brackets — the game calculates which bracket the target is in and applies the appropriate value. Higher tiers across the board means fewer shots to reach a kill at every range, or fewer hits to force an opponent to back off.

For an SMG, the important brackets are the first two: close range (CQB entry, stairwells, building pushes) and short range (open doorways, close-range open ground, snap peek fights). LAPA gets +2 on the first tier (31→33) and +1 on the second (28→29). Both matter.

The third tier moving from 20 to 22 is less impactful for an SMG — you are unlikely to be pushing SMG fights at that range by choice. But it means the LAPA does not collapse as hard when a fight extends further than planned.

Why This Matters Specifically on GameLoop PC

SMGs on GameLoop PC operate differently than on mobile. Mouse input removes the thumbstick drift that makes SMG-range gunfights unpredictable on a touchscreen. You can consistently aim at the upper chest and manage recoil more precisely, which means the theoretical damage output is closer to the actual output in most fights.

That translates directly to the LAPA's buff. On mobile, the 31→33 close-range improvement might not register as a kill difference because fights are shorter and messier. On PC, where you are landing most of your shots, hitting 33 instead of 31 for each bullet in a close burst is a real advantage — it changes the minimum shot count in some close-range exchanges.

The LAPA also has a predictable recoil pattern: it pulls vertically without strong horizontal drift. On a mouse, that kind of recoil is easy to manage. Drag slightly downward during the spray and keep your shots centered. Players who have used the LAPA before will find the muscle memory carries over; those new to it will get there faster than with most other SMGs.

How to Build It

What to prioritize:

The LAPA already has good sprint-to-fire speed. You do not need to stack mobility attachments at the expense of damage range or control. The base weapon's mobility is an advantage; the build should make it consistent, not faster at the cost of everything else.

ADS time — worth improving moderately. On PC, you have faster input response than a touchscreen, but ADS speed still matters when someone gets the peek advantage. One ADS-improving attachment is worth considering.

Horizontal recoil control — less critical because the LAPA's horizontal recoil is already predictable. If your available stock, grip tape, or rear grip gives a meaningful recoil improvement without sacrificing ADS time, take it.

Damage range — worth one attachment if it does not cost you mobility or ADS time. The third tier going up means the LAPA has a slightly longer useful window, and an attachment that extends the range where the first two tiers apply makes the buff even more valuable.

Suppressor — check whether it reduces recoil in your test runs. Many suppressors in CODM include recoil reduction as part of their trade-off. If the LAPA's base recoil is already comfortable, a suppressor that tightens it further is worth considering.

What to avoid:

Do not stack sprint speed or movement speed attachments unless you are specifically building for a sprint-to-fire aggressive playstyle. The FSS Hurricane had that role in S7 and got nerfed for it. The LAPA's strength is that it deals damage reliably; build for consistency, not speed.

Note: Specific attachment slot values and combination results require in-game testing on the S8 build. Attachment stats in CODM can shift between seasons. Test your build in practice mode before taking it into ranked.

Ranked Playstyle on GameLoop PC

The LAPA works best as a primary weapon in ranked when you are playing the flanks or the CQB entry points. In BR ranked mode, this means building interiors, vehicle approaches, and the close-range fights that happen at circle edge. In MP ranked (Hardpoint, Domination), it means holding the push lanes and contesting capture points at close range.

Pair it with a long-range AR or sniper in the secondary slot. LAPA + Krig 6 (also buffed in S8) is a natural combination — the Krig handles mid-range and the LAPA closes everything inside 15–20m. LAPA + Arctic .50 (buffed sniper) is a viable aggressive flanker setup if you play a mobile role.

On GameLoop PC, lean into the mouse advantage in CQB: aggressive head-level crosshair placement before corners, fast flick headshots at close range, and consistent spray at 10–15m. Those are the ranges where the 33/29 first-tier damage upgrade matters most. Practice the spray pattern in the shooting range before ranked — it is predictable enough to lock in quickly.

Is the LAPA Better Than the FSS Hurricane in S8?

Probably yes, for most players on GameLoop PC — but test both.

The FSS Hurricane is still fast and still viable. The sprint speed nerf costs it repositioning speed, not burst damage. If you built your playstyle around the Hurricane's mobility, it still works; it just does not have the same gap-closer advantage it held in S7.

The LAPA's buff makes the comparison closer than it has been in any recent season. For a PC player who can aim consistently, the LAPA's damage output now edges ahead in the close-range fights where both weapons compete.

GameLoop PC Keymapping Notes

The LAPA benefits from committed ADS fire rather than hip-fire at its core engagement range (5–20m). In GameLoop settings:

  • ADS key: Right Click → ADS. The handling improvement means the LAPA responds quickly to ADS input; committing to aimed fire (rather than hip-fire) gets you the full benefit of the predictable recoil pattern.
  • Mouse sensitivity (ADS): Set your ADS sensitivity multiplier to 55–65 for LAPA engagements. The close-range fights where the 33/29 damage tiers apply happen fast; lower sensitivity than that slows tracking.
  • Fire key: If you map fire to a keyboard key, use one with a short actuation distance. The LAPA's close-range exchanges are decided in the first two to three shots.
