Static-HV Is CODM S8's New SMG — How to Build and Play It on GameLoop PC
The Static-HV arrives with a 50-round magazine and aggressive fire rate. On PC mouse, both characteristics are more useful than they look. Here's how to build it and when to use it over the LAPA.
Season 8 adds two new weapons to the armoury: the ISO Hemlock AR and the Static-HV SMG. The Static-HV is the one that belongs in your SMG slot.
It is designed around a specific trade-off: high fire rate and a large magazine at the cost of whatever the FSS Hurricane or LAPA would give you at range. That trade-off plays out very differently on GameLoop PC than it does on mobile, and the difference is worth understanding before you start building.
What the Static-HV Is
The Static-HV arrives in Season 8 via the Challenge Pass — the 50-round magazine version is the Challenge Pass variant. That magazine size is the first thing to understand about this weapon. Most SMGs in CODM run 30–40 rounds base. Fifty is enough to engage multiple opponents without reloading, punish cover-play by maintaining sustained fire, and survive the awkward mid-fight reload situations that lose close-quarters exchanges.
The second thing to understand is the fire rate. Aggressive fire rate on an SMG means the weapon unloads quickly. On mobile, that speed works against consistency — thumbstick input can drift during fast fire, and the weapon empties before the player lands enough shots. On PC, with a mouse, it works differently. You are not fighting the controller. You move the mouse to maintain aim and the fire rate becomes an output multiplier: more shots per second means more damage per second when your aim is on target.
Together — large magazine, fast fire — the Static-HV is built for sustained close-range pressure. You can hold a corner, push a building, or sprint through a doorway and keep firing longer than the opponent expects.
Why This Matters on GameLoop PC
SMGs have always been a good choice on GameLoop PC. The emulator gives you mouse precision that makes short-to-mid-range gunfights more consistent than on touchscreen. You land more of your shots, which means the theoretical TTK (time to kill) in the weapon description is closer to your actual TTK in a real match.
That matters more for the Static-HV than for most SMGs because it is designed around a high fire rate. A high fire rate weapon that misses 30% of its shots does less damage per second than it looks like on paper. A high fire rate weapon that lands 80–85% of its shots in a close-range exchange — which PC mouse input makes realistic — is very fast.
The 50-round magazine also changes how you can play the weapon on PC. On mobile, sustained fire in multi-enemy situations is risky: reloading mid-fight with thumbstick input is disruptive. On PC, you can track and reposition without losing aim, which means having 50 rounds in reserve changes your decision-making. You do not need to disengage to reload after every kill. You can keep pressure on the next target.
How to Approach Building It
No post-launch attachment data is settled yet — the meta for a new weapon takes 48–72 hours to stabilize as players test in live matches. What follows is what to think about, not a five-attachment paste.
Magazine size first. If the 50-round magazine is the Challenge Pass variant, it may or may not be the default. Check whether your unlocked version includes it or requires an explicit slot. If you do not have the CP variant, upgrading to a large magazine is the first build decision to make — sustained pressure is the weapon's identity.
Manage the recoil, do not fight it. High fire rate SMGs typically have fast vertical recoil — the weapon climbs during a sustained burst. On PC you pull down during fire to compensate. Start by testing the base weapon in a warm-up match to understand how fast the climb is and in which direction. Then build around it: a stock, grip tape, or rear grip that reduces vertical recoil is worth one attachment slot. Do not overstack recoil control at the cost of mobility — SMGs lose their point if they become slow.
Preserve sprint-to-fire speed. The FSS Hurricane got a sprint speed nerf in S8. One of the reasons players moved away from the Hurricane was that it became slower to react when sprinting into a room. The Static-HV should not have that problem by default — do not create it by loading attachments that add sprint-to-fire penalties. Check the stat bar when attaching anything that touches mobility, and leave it alone if the STF speed drops noticeably.
One range attachment. SMGs fade past close-to-short range by design. You are not trying to win at 30+ meters with this weapon. But extending the first damage tier's effective distance slightly — enough to cover the short-to-mid window where SMG fights sometimes drift — is worth one barrel or magazine attachment if it does not cost ADS time.
ADS time is secondary for this weapon. The Static-HV's fast fire rate means the weapon is most effective when you are already on target, not when you are snapping to ADS quickly. You do not need to stack ADS speed the way you would for a slower, more deliberate weapon. A moderate ADS time is fine. Use that attachment slot for recoil control or range instead.
Settings Adjustments for GameLoop PC
Sensitivity. Fast-firing SMGs benefit from a slightly lower sensitivity than you would use for a sniper or AR. You want precise tracking, not fast sweeping. If you are using the same sensitivity across all weapon types, consider lowering your SMG sensitivity by 10–15% and testing it in a warm-up match with the Static-HV. Fast fire rate punishes over-correction — lower sensitivity makes the weapon easier to control during sustained bursts.
Fire button binding. On GameLoop, the fire button defaults to a position that works for most weapons. For the Static-HV specifically, because it fires quickly and you will be using it in close-quarters, make sure your fire button position does not create an awkward hand position when sprinting. Some players move the fire button to a different part of the screen for close-range loadouts. This is personal preference, but it is worth checking when you add a new SMG to your rotation.
Keymapping for Roguelike mode. If you plan to use the Static-HV in the new Roguelike co-op mode — which runs wave-based encounters where sustained fire is particularly valuable — review your keymapping in the Roguelike lobby. The mode has its own mechanics (Weapon Traits, Elite Chests) and the keymapping you use in Multiplayer may not be optimal for the wave-based format. Check that your sprint-to-fire transitions are mapped cleanly before entering a lobby.
When to Use It vs. the LAPA
Both the LAPA and the Static-HV are strong SMG choices in S8. They are designed for different situations.
Use the LAPA when: You need an SMG with more predictable range performance. The LAPA's S8 buff raised its damage across multiple tiers, making it reliable from close through the extended short-range window. It is the choice when fights might drift further than ideal SMG range.
Use the Static-HV when: You are playing in a style that stays inside the close-range bracket consistently — building clearance, objective defense/offense in tight spaces, or Roguelike co-op where the wave format keeps you in close proximity to enemies. The 50-round magazine and aggressive fire rate are built for sustained close-quarters exchanges, and the PC mouse makes that fire rate easier to use than on mobile.
They are not in competition for the same role. Build both, test both in the conditions you actually play in, and use the map and game mode to decide.
A Note on Early-Season Data
The Static-HV launched on 9 September 2026, the day this guide was written. At that point no reliable community data existed on optimal attachment combinations or damage numbers per tier. This guide focuses on the weapon's design and what to prioritize rather than specific builds because day-1 builds from any source — including this one — are speculation until the weapon has been tested across enough matches at rank.
The ranked meta guide, published September 15, will have more data on how the Static-HV and ISO Hemlock have settled into the meta after the first week of play. The LAPA loadout guide, published September 17, covers the alternative SMG choice in detail. Use those as reference when the season stabilizes.
What you could trust on launch day: the 50-round magazine is real, the fire rate is aggressive, and PC mouse input makes both of those characteristics more useful than they would be on mobile. That is enough to start with.
