How to Update GameLoop PC to the Latest Version (2026)

GameLoop updates automatically by default, but a broken auto-updater or a missed update can leave you running an old build. This guide explains how to update GameLoop manually and how to fix the most common update failures.

Running an outdated version of GameLoop can cause game compatibility errors, missing features, and performance problems — especially when a supported game ships a major update and requires a newer emulator build to run it. Here is how to check your version and update manually if the automatic system is not working.

Check your current version

Open the GameLoop launcher. Click your profile icon or the menu in the upper-right corner and look for About or Version info.

The version number appears as four components, for example 9.30.2.0. You can also find it under Windows → Control Panel → Programs → GameLoop.

To check the latest available version, visit gameloop.com. The version listed on the download page is always the current release.

Automatic update (default behavior)

GameLoop checks for updates when you open the launcher. If an update is available, it shows a notification banner at the top of the screen with an Update now button. Clicking it downloads and applies the update, then restarts GameLoop.

This process takes 2–10 minutes depending on the update size. During the update:

  • Do not launch any games.
  • Do not close the GameLoop window.
  • Keep your internet connection stable.

After restart, the launcher shows the new version in the About section.

Manual update

If the automatic update notification does not appear or fails, update manually:

  1. Open the GameLoop launcher.
  2. Click the menu icon (three lines or gear icon) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Check for updates or About.
  4. If an update is found, click Update.

If the option is greyed out or the check produces no result, your internet connection may be blocked. Some corporate or school networks block GameLoop's update servers. Try switching to a mobile hotspot and check again.

Reinstall to force a version update

If manual update fails and you need a specific version, a clean reinstall is the most reliable method:

  1. Uninstall GameLoop from Windows Settings → Apps → GameLoop → Uninstall.
  2. Choose whether to keep game data when prompted. If you keep it, your installed games survive the reinstall; only the GameLoop application itself is removed.
  3. Download the current installer from gameloop.com.
  4. Run the installer and complete the setup.
  5. Launch GameLoop — it will pick up your existing games automatically if you kept the game data.

Common update errors

Update stuck at 0% or freezes mid-download Check disk space. GameLoop needs free space equal to roughly 1.5× the update size to download and unpack. If the system drive is nearly full, clear space before retrying.

"Update failed" error with no explanation Exit GameLoop completely (right-click the system tray icon → Quit), then reopen and try the update again. If the launcher partially downloaded an update before failing, it will resume rather than restart from zero.

Update completes but version number does not change The old update cache may have been applied incorrectly. Close GameLoop, navigate to C:\Program Files\TxGameAssistant (or your install path), delete any folder named update_temp or patch_cache, and relaunch. GameLoop will re-download the update cleanly.

GameLoop crashes immediately after an update The most common cause is a DirectX/OpenGL conflict after a render engine change in the update. Hold Shift while launching GameLoop to open the graphics mode selector, switch to OpenGL, and launch normally. Once the launcher opens, you can switch back to DirectX in Settings → Rendering.

Games not working after a GameLoop update A GameLoop update sometimes requires the game itself to also update. Launch the affected game — it will detect a mismatch and show an in-game update prompt. Let it complete before playing.

Updating individual games inside GameLoop

GameLoop does not update installed games automatically. Each game's update is managed by the game itself:

  1. Launch the game from the GameLoop home screen.
  2. If an update is available, the game shows a download prompt on its own loading screen.
  3. Accept the update and wait for it to finish.

If a game shows a "version mismatch" or "client outdated" error when connecting to servers, it means the game updated its server requirements and you need to update the game client. Launch the game, accept the update prompt, and the error will resolve.
