FSS Hurricane Nerfed in CODM S8 — What It Means for GameLoop PC Players
Season 8 "Against All Fate" reduces the FSS Hurricane's sprint speed. Here is what that change does to the weapon on emulator, and whether you should switch.
The FSS Hurricane SMG is one of the more mobile weapons in Call of Duty: Mobile — fast, aggressive, built for close-range rushing. Season 8 "Against All Fate" changes that: the official patch notes confirm the FSS Hurricane received a sprint speed reduction.
For most players that is a clear nerf. For GameLoop PC players, the picture is more complicated.
What the change is
The official S8 patch notes confirm the FSS Hurricane's sprint speed dropped from 6.41 m/s to 6.26 m/s — a 2.3% reduction. Additionally, the FTac Coldforge 16" Barrel attachment, a popular aftermarket choice for the weapon, now adds a -6% ADS movement speed penalty that was not there before.
Sprint speed is a stat that affects how fast your character runs in the sprint animation, separate from base movement speed. It matters most during rushes, flanks, and any play style that relies on covering ground faster than the enemy can react.
Why this is a bigger deal on mobile than on PC
On a touchscreen, sprinting constantly is not free. Mobile players have a sprint button or auto-sprint toggle, and their thumb position during a sprint limits their ability to react to a snap fight. The FSS Hurricane's speed advantage was partly about raw mobility and partly about catching players off-guard with a pace they could not match.
On GameLoop PC, you press W and your character sprints. Always. You are sprinting more of the time than any mobile player is. The FSS Hurricane's sprint speed was already helping you less than it helps a mobile player, because your baseline mobility was already higher.
The nerf reduces a stat that gave you less relative advantage in the first place.
That said: the sprint-to-fire transition time — how long it takes to go from full sprint into an ADS or hipfire shot — is a separate stat that is not reported to have changed. That transition is where PC players feel the difference between SMGs most acutely. If Activision only touched sprint speed and left the sprint-to-fire time untouched, the FSS Hurricane loses some of its rushing value without losing the snap-shot timing that makes it functional in close quarters.
The meta shift
Alongside the FSS Hurricane nerf, S8 test server data shows buffs to competing SMGs: the Fennec and the LAPA both received improvements. This is not a coincidence — Activision is nudging players off the Hurricane and onto alternatives.
On GameLoop PC:
Fennec — The Fennec has a fast fire rate and tight hipfire spread. Emulator players who use hipfire in close quarters will notice the buff immediately. The Fennec already had a reliable recoil pattern on mouse; the S8 buff makes it a serious Hurricane alternative.
LAPA — The LAPA has a slightly longer effective range than the Fennec and more stable recoil for burst-to-burst control on keyboard. If you were running the Hurricane as a mid-close SMG rather than a pure rush weapon, the LAPA is likely a better replacement at the S8 state of balance.
Should you switch?
If you ran the FSS Hurricane specifically for its sprint speed — rushing objectives, fast flanks, racing to hardpoint — the nerf directly impacts your play style. A 2.3% drop is modest in isolation, but the combined effect of slower base sprint speed plus the FTac Coldforge ADS movement penalty adds up if you were running that barrel.
If you ran the FSS Hurricane because you liked its damage profile and its sprint-to-fire timing on PC: the confirmed patch notes only touch sprint speed and the barrel attachment penalty. Sprint-to-fire transition time is unchanged. The weapon may remain viable in close-quarters play even after the nerf — especially if you drop the FTac Coldforge barrel for a different attachment that avoids the new ADS movement penalty.
Either way, build out a Fennec or LAPA class before Season 8 launches. Have it ready. The test server numbers point to both SMGs being competitive alternatives, and having a backup loadout costs nothing.
Emulator-specific loadout notes
When building an S8 Hurricane replacement on GameLoop:
- Set your sprint keybind so you never break stride — default W as continuous sprint, not toggle
- SMG hipfire spread matters more on PC because you can hold center-screen better than mobile players; favor attachments that tighten hipfire
- ADS sensitivity: SMGs want a faster ADS sensitivity than ARs; dial this in in the GameLoop settings, not in the in-game sensitivity (GameLoop's mouse-to-ADS mapping behaves differently from the in-game slider)
