CODM S8 Free Mythic — Static-HV Core of Fire vs BAL-27 Core of Reason vs ISO Core of Thunder on GameLoop PC
The Free Mythic Pick 1 of 3 event gives every player one Honkai Impact 3rd mythic weapon. The right choice depends on which weapon you actually play. Here is how to decide before the final milestone.
Season 8's Free Mythic Pick 1 of 3 event gives every player who completes weekly missions one of three Honkai Impact 3rd collaboration mythic blueprints. The three options are the Static-HV Core of Fire, the BAL-27 Core of Reason, and the ISO Core of Thunder.
You can change your selection before completing the final milestone — there is no penalty for switching early. Holiday Login Rewards starting October 1 speed up milestone progress. This means if you are reading this in October, you may have limited time left to switch before the event closes with the season.
The right choice is the one for a weapon you actually use. A Mythic blueprint is cosmetic — it changes the appearance and animations of the weapon, not its stats. Choosing the most visually impressive blueprint for a weapon you never equip is a waste of the choice.
Here is how to evaluate each option based on how you play on GameLoop PC.
The Three Options
Static-HV Core of Fire — Herrscher of Flamescion aesthetic
The Static-HV is Season 8's new SMG, arriving via the Challenge Pass. It is built around a 50-round magazine and an aggressive fire rate — designed for sustained close-range pressure.
Choose this if: The Static-HV has become your primary weapon after S8 launch. It is the choice for players who run SMGs in their primary slot and have found the Static-HV's large magazine and fast fire rate suits how they play. On GameLoop PC, the fast fire rate is more manageable with mouse input than on mobile, which makes the weapon more effective here than its mobile impression suggests.
Do not choose this if: You have been playing it in ranked matches for two weeks and consistently find yourself switching back to the LAPA or FSS Hurricane. A blueprint for a weapon you leave benched is wasted.
BAL-27 Core of Reason — Herrscher of Reason aesthetic
The BAL-27 is an existing AR with a close-to-mid range damage profile and a fire rate that is fast for an assault rifle. It received no balance changes in S8, but benefits from the meta shift: the FSS Hurricane nerf creates more space for ARs, and the BAL-27 fills the close-quarters role the Hurricane previously occupied.
Choose this if: The BAL-27 is already in your loadout rotation, or if you are an AR player who plays Hardpoint or Domination where the close-to-mid range bracket dominates engagements. The Core of Reason blueprint is paired with Kestrel — Herrscher of Reason, the third Honkai operator draw, and the aesthetic matches that operator if you are collecting the Honkai collab set.
Do not choose this if: You primarily run long-range ARs or do not have the BAL-27 built in your weapon slots. There is no reason to choose a mythic for a weapon you do not have attachments or experience with.
ISO Core of Thunder — Herrscher of Thunder aesthetic
The ISO Hemlock is S8's free Battle Pass AR — every player who reaches the free Battle Pass tiers receives it. It is described as a low-recoil, mid-range AR with a straightforward profile. It pairs with Rin Yoshida — Herrscher of Thunder, the first Honkai operator draw.
Choose this if: The ISO Hemlock has become your go-to AR for ranked or core multiplayer matches. Because it is the free Battle Pass weapon, it is the most accessible of the three — more players will have it unlocked early in the season than either the Static-HV or a fully built BAL-27. If you are still building the BAL-27 and have been using the ISO Hemlock as your primary in the meantime, the Core of Thunder is the practical choice.
Do not choose this if: You received the ISO Hemlock for free and moved on to a different AR within the first week. Battle Pass weapons are often progression pickups rather than long-term primary weapons. If you switched away from the ISO Hemlock quickly, its mythic blueprint will not see use.
For GameLoop PC Players: Which Weapon Benefits Most from the Blueprint?
A Mythic blueprint is purely cosmetic. It does not change how the weapon shoots. The gameplay decision is: which of these three weapons do I play enough that I will see the animations and effects regularly?
On GameLoop PC, the weapon that benefits most from visibility is the one you use in the modes where you spend the most time.
- Ranked multiplayer: The BAL-27 and Static-HV compete for the aggressive primary slot. If the meta by October has settled around one of these (check the ranked meta update published September 28), that weapon is likely your heaviest-use option.
- Battle Royale: None of the three mythics are BR-specific. The ISO Hemlock works in BR but the BAL-27 and Static-HV are better in the close-mid bracket that BR occasionally forces.
- Roguelike co-op: Any of the three works. The Static-HV's 50-round magazine is particularly effective in wave-based encounters where sustained fire between reloads matters.
If you are genuinely undecided, the ISO Core of Thunder is the safest default: the ISO Hemlock is already in your loadout from the free Battle Pass, you have three weeks of practice with it, and the Core of Thunder blueprint means your most-used weapon gets the mythic treatment. That is a more reliable use of the choice than picking a weapon you theoretically prefer but have not been running in matches.
The Mechanics of the Event
You can change your selection. Before you reach the final milestone, switching from Core of Fire to Core of Reason (or any other combination) carries no penalty. You keep all progress on completed milestones. The only irreversible action is completing the final milestone while a specific weapon is selected.
Holiday Login Rewards speed up progress. Starting October 1, login rewards include event milestone progress. If you log in daily from October 1 through the end of the season, you will earn milestones faster than in September. If you are behind on progress in late September, logging in daily through October helps.
The Mythic Armory is separate. The Mythic Armory opened September 25 and contains additional Honkai collab blueprints purchased through the Armory draw system. The Free Mythic Pick event and the Mythic Armory are distinct systems — you are not spending Armory currency on the free event pick. The free pick is completed through weekly missions only.
Season end estimate. Based on CODM's typical ~35-day season pattern, Season 8 ends approximately October 13–14. The Free Mythic Pick event closes with the season. If you have not completed the final milestone by season end, the event ends without the reward. Log in daily in October and complete weekly missions to ensure you finish before the season closes.
The Short Version
- Already running Static-HV as your primary SMG → Core of Fire
- Already running BAL-27 or AR-primary player on Hardpoint/Dom → Core of Reason
- Using the ISO Hemlock as your main AR or undecided → Core of Thunder (safest default)
- Not sure? → Pick Core of Thunder now, play ranked for a week, switch before the final milestone if your primary weapon changed
The only wrong answer is picking a mythic for a weapon you do not play.
