CODM S8 Free Mythic Weapon Event — Which One to Pick (GameLoop PC Guide)

Season 8 "Against All Fate" gives every player a free Mythic weapon — no Battle Pass required. Here is what you need to know before you pick, and which one makes sense on a keyboard and mouse.

Season 8 "Against All Fate" includes a free Mythic weapon event available to all Call of Duty: Mobile players. You complete weekly missions across the season, and at the end you choose one of three Mythic weapons to keep — permanently.

This is not a giveaway where you get a random selection. You pick the one you want. And if you change your mind partway through, you can switch your selection before completing the final milestone — no penalty for reconsidering early. That flexibility means the decision is less risky than it sounds, but it still matters. Here is the breakdown from a GameLoop PC perspective.

What the event is

Activision has confirmed a milestone-based event where completing a set of in-game tasks across Season 8 rewards you with a free Mythic-tier weapon. The three options are:

  • Static-HV Core of Fire — Mythic Static-HV SMG
  • BAL-27 Core of Reason — Mythic BAL-27 AR
  • ISO Core of Thunder — Mythic ISO weapon

The event is available to all players, not gated behind the Battle Pass. It opens September 11 — two days after Season 8 launches — and runs through Season 8's duration, giving you the full season window to complete the weekly missions. The exact weekly task list will be visible in-game once the event unlocks September 11; this guide will be updated with the full breakdown then.

Each Mythic weapon is also paired with a corresponding Honkai Impact 3rd character skin in the Lucky Draw: ISO Core of Thunder pairs with Rin Yoshida (Herrscher of Thunder), Static-HV Core of Fire pairs with Siren (Herrscher of Flamescion), and BAL-27 Core of Reason pairs with Kestrel (Herrscher of Reason). The free Mythic event and the Lucky Draw pulls are separate — the event is the milestone-based free path; the Draws are gacha. You do not need to pull to earn the free weapon.

The three options, evaluated for GameLoop PC

Static-HV Core of Fire (Mythic SMG)

The Static-HV SMG is new in S8 — this is the weapon's first season in CODM. The Mythic version, Core of Fire, gives you a premium skin for a weapon whose base behavior you have not yet learned.

PC perspective: New SMGs always carry some uncertainty at launch. On GameLoop, recoil is controlled entirely by mouse movement — there is no assist from gyroscope or touch-drag. An SMG you have not tested on keyboard and mouse may surprise you. The Static-HV's ADS animation, sprint-to-fire transition, and hipfire spread behavior on PC are all unknowns until September 9.

If you pick this, you are betting that the new S8 SMG becomes a meta pick and that you will enjoy running it on keyboard. That is a reasonable bet if you prefer SMGs and want to invest in the fresh season weapon.

BAL-27 Core of Reason (Mythic AR)

The BAL-27 is a returning AR with a history in CODM and in the wider Call of Duty series going back to Advanced Warfare. Players who have run the BAL-27 before know its recoil pattern — a slightly upward kick with manageable horizontal drift that mouse control handles well.

PC perspective: The BAL-27 is the known quantity in this choice. Its recoil pattern is learnable and documented. On keyboard and mouse, mid-range ARs are generally the strongest weapon class because mouse precision rewards accurate burst-fire at distance more than touchscreen does. The BAL-27 fits that play style.

If you are a mid-range AR main who already knows this weapon's behavior, Core of Reason is the safest pick. You are getting a premium skin for a weapon you can use immediately and effectively.

ISO Core of Thunder (Mythic ISO Hemlock AR)

The ISO Hemlock AR is one of the two new weapons added in S8 alongside the Static-HV SMG. The Mythic version is Core of Thunder — confirmed paired with the Honkai character Rin Yoshida (Herrscher of Thunder) in the Lucky Draw.

PC perspective: The ISO Hemlock is confirmed as an AR, which is a good baseline for keyboard-and-mouse play. ARs as a class reward the precise burst-fire control that mouse aim enables. The uncertainty is the same as with the Static-HV: this is a new weapon whose specific recoil pattern, ADS timing, and sprint-to-fire transition on GameLoop have not been tested before launch.

If the ISO Hemlock ends up with a clean, manageable recoil pattern after launch, Core of Thunder could be a strong pick — new AR that becomes your season main, wrapped in a Mythic skin. The risk is committing to a weapon you discover you dislike after playing it.

Which should you pick?

The honest answer depends on how you play.

Pick BAL-27 Core of Reason if:

  • You are an AR main who prefers mid-range engagements
  • You already know the BAL-27's feel and want the Mythic skin for a reliable workhorse
  • You want to avoid picking a Mythic for a weapon that might not suit your style on PC

Pick Static-HV Core of Fire if:

  • You are an SMG main who plays aggressive, close-range
  • You want to invest in S8's new SMG early and build with it from the season start
  • You are comfortable adapting to new weapon feel mid-season

Pick ISO Core of Thunder if:

  • You prefer ARs but want the new season weapon over the returning BAL-27
  • You plan to run a dual-AR loadout or a hybrid build with the ISO Hemlock and Static-HV

If you have not played CODM much in recent seasons and do not have strong weapon loyalty, BAL-27 Core of Reason is the default safe pick. The weapon is proven, it works well on keyboard and mouse, and you are not taking on any uncertainty about a new season weapon's behavior.

Notes for GameLoop PC specifically

Mythic weapons include additional cosmetic effects — extra death animations, custom reload sequences, and sometimes modified weapon sounds. On GameLoop PC, these animations load correctly but can cause a minor frame drop in lobbies if other players are running heavy Mythic or Legendary skins simultaneously.

If you notice lobby frame drops when your Mythic is equipped, this is almost always a lobby rendering issue, not a gameplay issue. Once the match starts and the full skin roster loads, it stabilizes. If the lobby drop is significant: temporarily reduce your Graphics Quality setting by one step before entering the lobby, then restore it after the match starts.

When to complete the milestones

There is no ranked timer on this event — you have the full Season 8 window (event opens September 11, runs through approximately early November 2026) to complete the weekly missions and claim your weapon.

The practical advice: do not burn through milestones in casual matches just to complete them faster. Complete them in your normal play mode so you are also earning ranked progress, XP, and Battle Pass tiers simultaneously. Treat the free Mythic as a bonus that arrives by mid-season, not a race.
